Spectro Alloys completes solar installation at Minnesota facility

Spectro Alloys, a Rosemount, Minnesota-based aluminum recycler, has completed a solar installation through All Energy Solar Inc. to power its new 70,000-square-foot distribution center in Rosemount.

Spectro recycles aluminum scrap from cars and appliances and says that with a large operation comes significant energy usage. According to the company, going solar made sense from a sustainability perspective, but the financial aspect helped secure the decision.

“With a breakeven point of about seven years and a 30-year warranty on the panels themselves, we will have a lot of years of sustainable energy,” Spectro President Luke Palen says, noting All Energy Solar's turnkey solutions and custom solar designs made the installer an easy choice for Spectro.

Working around Spectro’s operations, All Energy Solar placed 212 solar panels, producing 112 kilowatts of power, to support the distribution center facility where finished aluminum products are cooled and stored before being shipped.

“We have installed enough solar that Spectro's offset is around 50 percent of the distribution center's operations,” says Ben Anderson, a commercial project managers at All Energy Solar.

Spectro hopes to implement more sustainability solutions in the future.
