Upstate Shredding Takes Over Reamer Recycling Services

New York-based scrap metal recycler leaves Metalico to join Upstate Shredding.

Upstate Shredding, based in Owego, N.Y., has announced that Reamer Recycling, Ithaca, N.Y., has left Metalico to join Upstate Shredding.

“This acquisition makes sense as we continue increasing our volumes company wide,” says Adam Weitsman, president of Upstate Shredding - Ben Weitsman. “We will be fully paving the facility, redoing the buildings, bringing in brand new equipment and landscaping the property.”

The all-cash transaction will close in August, Upstate says.

Bill Reamer of Reamer Recycling will stay on to assist the incoming management team during the transition period. He owned Reamer Recycling for 15 years, while the recycling operations have been in existence at the Ithaca location for more than 75 years.

In addition to the Ithaca facilities, Ben Weitsman yards are in Albany, Jamestown, Rochester, Syracuse, Owego and Binghamton, N.Y; and Scranton, Pa. The company also is opening an export facility at the Port of Albany, N.Y., in July 2013 and recently announced a second shredding facility and scrap yard in New Castle, Pa., to join its main shedder in Owego.
