Steinert US Showcases New U.S. Headquarters

Equipment manufacturer holds open house and charity golf tournament for customers and vendors.

Steinert US, Inc. celebrated the opening of its new headquarters facility in Walton, Ky., with a Charity Golf Outing and Open House event held Sept. 19-20, 2012.

The company had outgrown its previous 7,000-square-foot location in nearby Cincinnati and wanted to showcase its new sales and service presence for customers. Steinert’s companion golf outing, held Sept. 19, raised close to $22,000 benefitting the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Speaking at the event, Steinert US President Jason Looman said the Walton, Ky., location is an ideal hub for the company, which continues to serves as the North American headquarters of Steinert Elektromagnetbau GmbH; a manufacturer of separation technology solutions for the scrap, waste and mining industries based in Cologne, Germany.

Steinert US was established in the United States in 2003, and has grown markedly over the last decade, Looman said. The company manufactures a comprehensive line of magnetic and sensor-sorting equipment designed to separate and recover a wide range of materials.

The newly remodeled 36,000-square-foot building houses an equipment testing lab and will be used for sales demonstrations, training and on-site equipment repairs, and will also stock a comprehensive spare parts inventory and support the company’s field service technicians located throughout the US. Looman also said a production line for mining-related equipment will be installed.

Among the company’s newest product achievements is its KSS Combination Sensor System, an automatic shape, color and volume sorting plant designed for use in the mining, scrap and waste industries.

Steinert's UniSort NIR sorter is one of the plants operating in the new test lab.

Looman said he was especially proud of the testing lab located immediately outside the building, which contains four sorting plants and runs five days a week.

“For many years we shipped materials to Germany for testing,” he said. “Putting in the equipment here gives customers an opportunity to see their materials run.”

The test lab houses an induction separation system, a KSS Combination shape/color sorter, an eddy current system, a UniSort NIR plant and a single-stage ferrous preseparator.

During the open house event, Steinert offered numerous training sessions and facility tours. Equipment demonstrations included operation of the eddy current system, UniSort NIR and UniSort Flake machines. Additional plants and equipment were also on display.

Looman said the company has grown significantly since it first established a North American presence. “In 2003 there were two and a half individuals working on behalf of Steinert US,” he said. “There were nine in 2009, when I came on board. Now there are 23.”

Marcus Heinrich, CEO of Steinert Germany, also offered his thanks and gratitude to customers at the event. “The reason for having this facility here is to support the local market, while we continue to think globally,” Heinrich said.
