In Memoriam: John Wagner
John Wagner, founder and owner of Allegheny Shredders, Delmont, Pennsylvania, died Sept. 10, 2014, at the age of 86.
Wagner founded Allegheny Shredders more than 45 years ago. In 1971, according to the company, he introduced the first high-capacity shredder in the document destruction industry—a 15-horsepower unit—paving the way for increasingly powerful machines and innovative large-scale equipment solutions.
Allegheny Shredders credits the company’s growth and reputation to Wagner’s engineering talent, leadership skills and enthusiasm for providing the customer with a quality product.
Wagner’s achievements include “the Auto-Feed System™, Allegheny’s high-impact-resistant T-18 tool steel cutters and the industry’s first truly high-performance, complete destruction system—offering a capacity of over 25 tons per hour,” the company’s website notes.
His legacy in the industry is carried on by his sons and his grandson.
O’Neil introduces oneilMobile Android app
O’Neil Software Inc., an Irvine, California-based provider of technology solutions for commercial and corporate records management for more than 30 years, has introduced its oneilMobile, an Android application designed for smartphones and tablets. It is designed to allow record center customers to search for and view the status of Web orders and to look up data on individual items stored in facilities that use O’Neil Software’s RS-SQL® Version 4.07 system. OneilMobile requires Android 4.03 (ICS MR1) or higher, the company says.
When the application launches, it automatically searches for all orders placed in the last 72 hours and notifies users if none are found, O’Neil says. The default can be changed once additional searches have been created and saved.
Using the company's oneilMobile, users can search fields that include saved search, tracking number, batch number, order status, ordered by, ordered date, requestor, service priority and account.
David Holt, O’Neil CEO, says, “This useful but simple application is an early demonstration of O’Neil’s commitment to these ubiquitous platforms as interfaces for collecting and transmitting records management information. Records center staff and customers will find the oneilMobile technology and the functionality it will provide for years to come a worthy successor to O’Neil’s award-winning RSMobile.”
Blancco provides audit trail
Blancco, with U.S. headquarters in Atlanta, says organizations using reporting solutions available with Blancco products automatically receive tamper-proof evidence for auditors whose data have been removed from their IT assets.
“Legislation, regulations and industry standards continue to grow more stringent worldwide regarding privacy of data on computers, tablets, smartphones and other devices, and our solutions help organizations meet erasure requirements with confidence,” says Markku Willgren, president of U.S. operations for Blancco. “The stakes are high, as noncompliance can mean exorbitant fines, civil liability, irreparable damage to brand image or even imprisonment.”
Data security mandates under certification programs, such as ISO 27001 and ISO 15408, as well as industry standards, such as PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), and federal regulations, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX )and the upcoming European Union Data Protection Directive, require proof of this data removal to avoid the risk of penalties, Blancco points out.
“Blancco’s digitally signed erasure reports provide critical details as to when, how and by whom the erasure was done as well as the asset serial number and hardware condition,” Willgren says. “With third-party approved erasure processes and detailed reporting, Blancco’s certified data erasure products ensure both regulatory compliance and peace of mind for organizations throughout the public and private sectors,” he adds.
As a global leader in data erasure and computer reuse solutions, Blancco offers certified data erasure solutions. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of London-based Regenersis, a strategic outsourcing partner to numerous leading consumer technology companies.
