O’Neil Introduces RS-SQL, Version 4.03
O’Neil Software, Irvine, Calif., has released its most recent software upgrade to RS-SQL, Version 4.03.
Ian Thomas, executive vice president of O’Neil Software, says, “Even the largest record center cannot compete if it is slow to change with the times. And all too often, it is the very technology they rely on to improve efficiency that keeps them from moving at the speed of 21st century business. That’s why we are continually upgrading our existing product line. We don’t want our customers wondering what’s ahead; we want them to be ready for it.”
Among the changes introduced with RS-SQL, Version 4.03, is a new image storage method, Digitech Systems, from Digitech Solutions. This storage method can only be used by record centers that are using the Digitech PaperVision product. It allows the record center to reference images that are stored on the PaperVision platform from within RS-SQL. These images also can be delivered to the customer via RSWeb®.NET, using what is called a Document Grant in Digitech terminology, according to O’Neil. The company says the biggest benefit of this new feature is the enabling of integrated billing.
O’Neil also has added image purge capability to Version 4.03. This feature helps reduce the amount of irrelevant material from a legal point of view, keeping business data relevant and removing what is no longer needed or pertinent to a company’s business, according to the company. In previous versions of RS-SQL, users could delete an image, which also deleted all activity related to the image. In the new version, users can remove images from an image record while keeping the image record itself; therefore, RS-SQL retains all image data entry, activity and billing information.
O’Neil also has changed the RSMobile prefix command. This feature now gives users the ability to scan bar codes of any length, add a prefix and pad them out with any character to a specified length, the company says. This feature is helpful during conversions or for the initial intake of boxes that have existing bar codes from other record centers, the company adds.
The company also has introduced cloud based licensing (CBL), which it describes as the “new and automated way to license users.” The new RS-SQL License Manager service, running on the user’s Internet accessible computer, enables licensing information to be sent directly to and from O’Neil via the cloud. Once the user enters an activation code provided by O’Neil, the service takes care of the rest.
