OBC adds IPS and American Baler to its equipment offering

OBC Baling Equipment, Cleveland, has added two baler brands to its product offering. IPS and American Baler have selected OBC to be their exclusive dealer for Ohio and portions of other surrounding states. OBC says the expansion allows the company to serve customers with a precise match of equipment to fit their needs.

“This new opportunity to include both IPS and American Baler in our product mix is a really big win for our customers,” says Mike McChrystal, president and owner of OBC Baling Equipment. “Baling needs can be very specific, based on volume, material, available footprint, labor costs and other factors. Now that we can offer the four best brands of balers in the country, we will always be able to identify the right equipment to meet the exact needs of our customers.”

OBC Baling Equipment sells, services and supports IPS, American Baler, Harris and Max-Pak Balers, along with other recycling-related equipment.

OBC Used Equipment and OBC Rigging, two other companies under the OBC brand, further enhance customer options by offering quality preowned inventory and installation, reconditioning and relining services for existing equipment, the company says.

O’Neil Software adds handheld scanner

Irvine, California-based O’Neil Software Inc., a provider of technology solutions for commercial and corporate records management for more than 30 years, has introduced the MC67 scanner, which it says is compatible with O’Neil’s RS-SQL Version 4.04.05 and higher software. The handheld scanner is compact but has all the capabilities of a traditional high-volume scanner, the company says.

With the dual wireless WAN modem, MC67 scanner users can choose the specific cellular network that will provide the best coverage: 4G HSPA+ and/or 3.5G CDMA EVDO cellular (Verizon) networks, the company says. In addition to making and accepting calls as well as sending and receiving email, the handheld scanner allows users to place and complete multiple work orders, O’Neil says.

A dual-core 1 gigahertz processor provides the power needed to support complex applications, the company says, while high-speed Wi-Fi allows application performance when connected to the Wi-Fi office network or to hot spots. GPS functionality gives users access to location-based applications. Advanced scanning technology captures one- and two-dimensional bar codes speed, even if codes are dirty, damaged or poorly printed, the company says.

Additionally, the MC67 PenTile screen delivers twice the brightness at half the power of typical displays and provides readability, even in bright sunlight, O’Neil says. Integrated sensors automatically power down the unit when it’s face down or doesn’t move for a preset period of time. The scanner also features dual-microphone noise cancellation technology to reduce any background noise, according to the company.

David Holt, O’Neil CEO, says, “We especially like the new MC67 mobile platform from Motorola® because of its incredibly fast scanning, more ergonomic size and feel and a price point lower than prior, comparable platforms.”

BACE SmartBaler System

BACE, Charlotte, North Carolina, has introduced the SmartBaler System, which combines a digital scale with what BACE calls business intelligence software. BACE says the new system enables any baler from any manufacturer, including vertical balers, to weigh its own contents and transmit all relevant data to selected employees. Other features of the system include:

  • tracking and providing the exact weight of each bale as it is ejected from the baler;
  • notifying recyclers when a certain number of bales are ready for pick up, which can reduce fuel costs, exhaust emissions, travel time and insurance costs for the recycler;
  • tracking usage and sending alerts when the baler is ready for preventive maintenance; and
  • printing and placing bar codes on each bale for traceability and automatically ordering baling wire or strapping.
