Blancco introduces SSD erasure method
Solid state drives (SSDs) are used in various electronic devices; however, issues remain regarding the erasure of data from flash-based SSD memory. Finland-based Blancco has announced what it has termed “a major breakthrough in the erasure of SSDs” with the addition of automated freeze lock removal, opening access to firmware-based erasure commands in SSDs.
Blancco says, “The removal of freeze locks automates the thorough sanitization of SSDs to meet regulatory compliance and also eliminates the need for inefficient manual intervention in the erasure processes.”
Blancco says its SSD erasure method has been verified by Stellar Data Recovery, a global leader in data recovery technology.
O’Neil releases oneilCloud
O’Neil DataTech LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Irvine, Calif.-based O’Neil Software, has announced the release of oneilCloud, which it describes as a re-engineering and rewriting of the company’s RS-SQL® client/server model.
OneilCloud takes advantage of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud-based technologies. It is not a legacy client/server technology transplanted into a hosting infrastructure, according to the company.
O’Neil Software CEO David Holt says the service allows customers to focus on core business activities. “The oneilCloud takes the responsibility of hosting an enterprise solution, such as O’Neil Software’s RS-SQL, and moves it into an environment managed and maintained by the O’Neil team. Not only are there ‘back office’ advantages (for example, users will no longer have to worry about Microsoft® SQL Server versions, upgrades or backups) but there are also interface advantages,” he says of the Web-based program.
Holt says oneilCloud enables users to access their business data from “virtually any device with a compatible Internet browser.”
