Prime Compliance Offers HIPAA Training Program
Tom Dumez, formerly of Michigan-based Kent Record Management, where he provided training and consulting services regarding compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), has started a new company called Prime Compliance LLC, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Prime Compliance will continue to provide the industry’s original employee HIPAA training program, according to Dumez.

“We want to continue to be the first choice for RIM (records and information management) company owners who are seeking to provide a ‘real world’ and comprehensive educational program that encourages compliance by each of their employees—the very people that pose the greatest risks—and in a way that they understand,” he says.

Prime Compliance also offers training in other regulatory areas as well as consultation in risk mitigation, risk assessments, policy and procedure review, business associate agreements and RIM for every level of operator, Dumez says.

Prime Compliance will offer introductory training packages and rates. More information is available at www.thehipaaman.com.

American Container Acquires Kilch Enterprises

American Container Equipment & Supplies LLC (ACES) has completed the purchase of Kilch Enterprises Inc., Marietta, Ga. Marietta-based ACES has warehouses throughout the United States and is owned and operated by Claire and Emil Brignola III.

Kilch Enterprises provided secured document containers to the shredding industry for 14 years.

With its acquisition of Kilch, ACES is now the exclusive distributor of IPL Classic carts for the shredding industry as well as the manufacturer and distributor of the secure Regal Ergo cabinet.

ACES says it plans to expand its product line based on industry needs and customer feedback.

“We’re soliciting our best resource—our customers—on new products to smartly fill out our product line,” Emil says.

Claire adds, “We will continue to provide the excellent customer service that the Kilches were known for.”

Southco Introduces Device for Storage Units

Southco, headquartered in Concordville, Pa., has released the EA-A06 USB controller, which allows for the independent, computer-controlled operation of up to 14 different electronic locks or devices when connected to a computer via a standard USB port. With independently labeled connections for latch inputs, the controller is designed for plug-and-play installation and can be integrated with any Southco electromechanical lock to enable remote operation, the company says.

The EA-A06 features a user-friendly interface with simple programming commands that can be used with existing customer software, according to Southco. Using a single computer, the configuration, operation and monitoring of electronic devices is simplified and the need for additional access hardware or devices is eliminated.

The EA-A06, in conjunction with an existing computer, also enables users to remotely track and record access to electronic locks, providing an audit trail that can help demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.

Lock America Reorganizes

Frank Minnella, CEO of Lock America International Inc., Corona, Calif., has announced that he will move to an advisory role with the company, stepping back from daily involvement in operations. He also announced two promotions designed to help with this transition.

“I’ve been active in the security lock business for over 30 years, and it’s time for a new generation to take over operations and marketing for Lock America,” Minnella says. “Watson Visuwan, who is moving up from sales manager to vice president of marketing, has proven himself in many roles at Lock America over the last 15 years. With the promotion of Dan Walsh to sales manager and the development of the rest of our team, Watson has the resources to take the company into new markets while building on our success in our present businesses.”

Visuwan has held numerous positions with Lock America, Minnella says, from packing orders to business development and sales management. “He’s done the job wherever we’ve put him,” he adds.

Walsh, who will replace Visuwan as sales manager, joined Lock America in 2011 as a sales associate.

“Dan has shown from the start that he knows how to listen to customers and prospects, determine their needs and work to meet them,” Minella says. “This promotion recognizes his rapid growth in the company and his increased responsibilities. A number of our new markets have grown this year, thanks in part to Dan’s contributions.”

For more than 30 years, Lock America International has developed and marketed a wide range of locks and security products.
