A new name. A deep history.

Industrial Service Solutions (ISS) is a new name to the recycling industry but recycling is not new to ISS. Through its operating companies, ISS has been serving customers in the scrap processing and recycling industry for decades. In 2020, the company expanded that commitment by forming ISS-Recycling Technologies.

The division is focused on metals recycling and is leveraging the comprehensive range of products and services offered by ISS. With 2,500 employees, 45-plus locations and deep experience meeting the needs of a wide range of industrial process industries, ISS offers unmatched resources and expertise to the recycling industry.

ISS companies and service centers serve the oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, aerospace and many other industrial customers. Its equipment, controls and service capabilities allow it to tackle the most complex industrial process and manufacturing challenges.

Deep recycling roots

AC or DC Motors and Drives. New or Rebuilt; 1000 HP to 10,000 HP.

One of the many ways ISS has been serving the recycling industry is through AmeriMex Motors & Controls. AmeriMex has provided motors and controls for auto shredders for decades. These heavy-duty motors have been delivering reliable power, processing hundreds of thousands of tons of scrap.

Wade Stockstill, CEO of ISS, led AmeriMex prior to its acquisition by ISS in 2013. That experience gave the ISS leadership team a view into the scrap metal business. They knew there was a tremendous opportunity for the company to raise the bar in the metals recycling business.

“Having a customer base in the industry gave us visibility into the demands of auto shredding and the downstream processing requirements,” Stockstill says. “We knew that the portfolio of services we offer could help operators enhance their processing capabilities. That’s why we made the decision to form the new division and staff it with experienced industry professionals.”

In June 2020, ISS recruited industry veteran Bill Tigner to join the company as vice president of ISS-Recycling Technologies. Tigner brought more than three decades of recycling machinery experience, with 25 of those years focused on automobile and metals shredding and downstream processing.

“One of the things that attracted me to ISS is that they have tremendous resources, but also a culture that allows them to offer small-company competitiveness with large-company capabilities and process disciplines,” Tigner says.

ISS-Recycling Technologies is supported by a team of mechanical, electrical and process engineers. The engineering team provides deep experience into the requirements of shredding plants, the downstream processing and emissions controls required to enhance production, recovery and ensure compliance.

Capabilities beyond the shredder

ISS offers a full range of shredder mills based upon the U.S. Shredder designs. These hammermills have been fabricated in the same shop for nearly two decades and offer a proven track record of performance and value.

Systems integration and operating controls are a strong suit for ISS. These capabilities offer scrap processing firms access to some of the most sophisticated operating systems used in industry today, including leading-edge AI-driven system monitoring.

Because ISS has been designing and implementing similar systems in power generation, petrochemical, mining and other demanding industries, scrap processors benefit from unmatched application expertise.

By combining ISS process systems and controls with best-in-class separation technologies, ISS also is able to deliver the most advanced and sophisticated nonferrous separation plants in the industry.

Specialty: Emissions control

With deep roots in power generation, oil and gas, steel production and other heavy industries, ISS long ago developed in-house capabilities to engineer, integrate, install and service the most advanced and reliable emission control systems.

They are able to offer single-source capabilities to meet the most demanding shredder emission control standards. This includes integrating regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) systems into shredder plants.

Delivering uptime

With 45 locations across the country and in-house engineering, manufacturing and fabricating capabilities, coupled with a global supply chain for wear parts, ISS is able to keep shredders up and running.

From mid-section rebuilds to replacement rotors and conveyor service work to replacement hammers, grates and liners, ISS offers the wear parts and service capabilities equivalent to an OEM, but quicker and more cost-effectively.
