Axo Truck Helps Colorado Document Destruction Reduce its Carbon Footprint

Colorado Document Security (CDS), Palisade, Colo., has announced that it has lowered its carbon footprint by 33 percent by replacing its three-year-old full-size on-site document destruction truck with a new Axo Peashooter document destruction truck.

Axo, Kitchener, Ontario, introduced the smaller, lighter and more fuel-efficient document destruction truck in 2006 to address the small market/entry market segment of the secure destruction industry. At the time of the truck’s introduction, the company said the vehicle was "designed to allow inner-city operators or startup companies to enter the market with a modern, full-featured truck."

The Peashooter is capable of shredding 2,500 pounds of paper per hour and features a total vehicle weight of 19,500, according to Axo. The truck can haul more than 6,000 pounds of shredded paper, and drivers do not require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate the Peashooter.

According to CDS, the Peashooter reduces its carbon footprint by at least 33 percent in its manufacture, maintenance and fuel economy. The Peashooter has realized a 52 percent increase in fuel economy for CDS compared to the shred truck it replaced.

Colorado Document Security Vice President of Operation Scott Fasken says he has been looking at ways to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and saw the Axo Peashooter as an ideal solution.

An additional benefit of the Peashooter is that it is not subject to IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement), an agreement that provides for the consolidated reporting of motor vehicle fuels taxes for vehicles and their loads weighing 26,000 pounds or more when traveling in more than one state or province of Canada. Fasken says the Peashooter has saved his wife and business partner Jill Fasken four days per year in accounting work, freeing her up to do more productive work.

Colorado Document Security was founded in 2003 and provides secure on-site document destruction to the Western Slope of Colorado and Northern New Mexico. CDS has been a member of the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) since its founding and says it was the first Western Slope document destruction firm to received NAID AAA Certification.
