Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has announced that the state has reached a settlement with Health Net concerning the health insurance firm’s loss of a computer hard drive last year. Under terms of the settlement, Health Net has agreed to pay $250,000 to Connecticut and to enact privacy-protection measures.
The terms of the deal include two years of credit monitoring service for affected parties, $1 million in ID theft insurance and reimbursement for security freeze costs. It also includes a possible $500,000 payment to the state should the lost disk drive result in ID fraud.
In an announcement following the settlement, Health Net says it has no evidence of any misuse of the data to date.
