AERC Recycling Solutions, based in Flanders, N.J., has announced that its Com-Cycle electronics processing facility in West Melbourne, Fla., has attained R2/RIOS Certification. The Florida facility is the first Com-Cycle location to acquire R2/RIOS Certification, according to the company.
The company reports that AERC/Com-Cycle West Melbourne is the eighth facility in the U.S. to obtain the Certified Electronics Recycler credential from the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI).
Perry Johnson Registrars Inc. (PJR Associates), an accredited certification body for R2/RIOS, audited the facility. AERC says it plans to obtain R2/RIOS Certification for its Com-Cycle facilities in Hayward, Calif.; Houston; Ashland, Va.; and Allentown, Pa., by 2011.
ISRI Services Corp. (ISC) administers the RIOS (Recycling Industry Operating Standard), the recycling industry’s quality, environmental and health and safety management system standard. The development of the R2 (Responsible Recycler) Practices was facilitated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is supported by ISC. R2 outlines specific guidelines for recyclers who dismantle and refurbish end-of-life electronics.
