The CEO of Fort Wayne, Indiana-based recycled-content steel producer Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) has announced promotions for employees James Anderson and Chad Bickford.

“I am excited and pleased to recognize Jim and Chad for their outstanding leadership and positive impact within our company,” SDI Chair and CEO Mark D. Millett says.

“Jim’s commercial and operational guidance will benefit our Long Products Steel Group, as we work with our steel fabrication teams and continue to develop customer-centric supply chain solutions,” Millett says of Anderson, who has been named senior vice president of SDI’s Long Products Steel Group.

Anderson will assume responsibility and oversight for the company’s Long Products Steel Group on May 1. Those operations are comprised primarily of the company’s four scrap-fed electric arc furnace (EAF) long product steel mills and several smaller facilities, representing almost 5 million tons of annual steel shipping capability.

He will continue to report to Barry Schneider, company president and chief operating officer. He previously worked within the company’s Steel Fabrication business unit president of the New Millennium Building Systems subsidiary.

Anderson has been an SDI employee since 2007, when the Pennsylvania-based steel galvanizing firm for which he worked was acquired by the EAF producer.

“The Steel Fabrication Group will benefit from Chad’s detailed steel fabrication operational experience, coupled with his recent leadership positions within our steel operations," Millett says of Bickford.

Bickford, vice president of the SDI Steel Fabrication Group, will assume responsibility and oversight for that group, including New Millennium Building Systems, which is comprised of seven steel joist and deck manufacturing facilities located throughout the United States and Mexico.

Since February 2023, Bickford was responsible for the company’s Butler (Indiana) Flat Roll Steel Division, and from 2021 to 2023, he was responsible for the company's Engineered Bar Products Steel Division, as the General Manager of each location.

Prior to joining the company’s steel operations, Bickford had held roles within New Millennium since 200.

SDI is one of the largest domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in North America. In addition to its network of EAF mills, the company processes and sells ferrous and nonferrous scrap via its OmniSource Corp. business unit.
