Municipal Solid Waste Processing

The closing of landfills, as well as mandated recycling levels have led to an increase in the sorting of municipal solid waste. BHS designs, manufactures, and installs processing systems designed to extract the recyclable materials from this waste stream and minimize the residue that must be landfilled.

Several proprietary components can be incorporated into the system design for increased automation. The B.H.S. Bag Breaker® opens bags mechanically, eliminating the need for sorters to manually tear bags. The B.H.S. Debris Roll Screen® (DRS) segregates materials by size to consolidate similar materials for improved sorting efficiency. The DRS is also used to remove the small materials that contain a high percentage of organic material for composting. Automated recovery of ferrous and aluminum is achieved with magnets and eddy current separators. Steelbelt conveyors are utilized to withstand the abrasive, demanding environment.
