Scrap recycler’s calendar earns award

Scrap art calendar for Ontario’s John Zubick & Sons picks up international design contest honor.

A calendar featuring sculptures crafted from scrap metal at the yard of John Zubick Ltd., London, Ontario, Canada, has earned an international design award for the advertising agency that created it. Marketing Strategies & Solutions Inc., also based in London, has been awarded a silver prize in the calendar category of the 2015 Summit Creative Awards.

According to Robert Adeland, president of Marketing Strategies & Solutions, the awards panel recently announced its winners from a pool of more than 5,000 entries from 23 countries. The awards strive to “recognize creative excellence in work by the world’s small design studios and agencies.”

Adeland credits the Zubick family for its support of creative endeavors in London. “This was the third year in which we presented photographs of the student sculptures in the Zubick calendar, along with some unique images of scrap materials found in the Zubick recycling yard,” he says.

The sculptures have been the result of a project sponsored by the Zubicks for Fine Arts students at Fanshawe College in London, Adeland says. “Our staff did an outstanding job in designing a format to present the sculptures and photographs in an artistic yet functional manner,” he adds.

According to Adeland, the calendar series is highly prized by Zubick customers and associates as well. The calendar also highlights local events and inspirational quotes throughout the year.
