Zoning Battle Over Asphalt Plant Continues in New Jersey

Dennis Township zoning board hears more testimony about proposed recycling center.

The Dennis Township (New Jersey) zoning board has not finished hearing testimony over a proposed recycling center and asphalt plant project, according to a report in the Cape May County Herald (Cape May County, N.J).

More than 200 people attended a mid-April meeting about the use-variance requests from R.E. Pierson Construction Inc., Pilesgrove, N.J., to add a recycling center, as well as concrete and asphalt plants to the site of a current sand a gravel mining operation.

The zoning board had previously granted the company its use-variances at a meeting in January. However, following a negative response from neighbors to the site, the board rescinded its approval on Feb. 28, according to the report.

The applicant then sent out new notices making more neighbors aware of the plans.

Hearings will continue on May 23.
