Yankton, South Dakota, city commissioners voted to enter into a contract with Millennium Recycling Inc. to process its recycling, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a report by the Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan says. Along with entering this contract, the city also will switch to single-stream recycling.
According to the report, there will be a $25-per-ton charge because the city will be collecting single-stream materials that include glass. To start, collections will occur once per week, amounting to about 10 tons per load.
While there will be more leeway for contaminated waste, according to the report, medical waste, hazardous waste, large pieces of wood and other materials that may damage the system will not be accepted.
Staff members from Millennium Recycling will help the city develop media and handouts to educate residents on the new recycling system, the report says. Bid-letting for new recycling roll carts is upcoming.
Implementation of the new recycling program will take place the spring.
