The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the state’s Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan program are teaming up with Kanawha County Planning Commission to address the problem with scrap tires in the state.
Over the next two months, a series of cleanup events and tire collections will be held for local residents doing their spring cleaning.
During the annual Kanawha County Spring Cleanup, Governor REAP will host tire collection events for county residents.
Residents may dispose of up to 10 tires per person with a valid West Virginia ID for Kanawha County. The tires must be off the rims. Only car and light truck tires 16 inches or less will be accepted. Haulers and businesses are not allowed to participate.
Additionally, the state Planning Commission will accept air conditioners, large appliances, accumulated solid waste, recyclables, newspapers, metal and glass. Items not accepted include gas tanks, paint, and hazardous waste and propane tanks.
Four events will be held across the county. They are:
April 13-14, Northern Kanawha County, Elkview Middle School
May 4-5, Western Kanawha County, Old Sam’s Warehouse lot, Cross Lanes
May 18-19, Eastern Kanawha County Cabin Creek, behind the Go-Mart
June 9, Southern Kanawha County
