The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has reached an agreement with Gaithersburg Recycling Center, LLC that will require the company to pay a $7,500 penalty for air pollution. The company also will be required to install water suppression equipment to reduce the amount of dust and other dust and air particles that are generated at the facility. Further, the company was cited for failing to have a permit to operate certain machinery at the site.
At issue is the use of a tub grinder the company is using. However, the use of the grinder, without a permit, generated significant amount of pollutants into the air.
The proposed consent order would allow the company to grind and chip wood into mulch outside its facility at the former Compton Trucking Company site, south of Berkeley Springs in West Virginia.
Within ten days of the effective date of the consent order, the company is supposed to submit a complete permit application for the grinder. Before starting to use the equipment, they must submit a comprehensive operating plan.Latest from Recycling Today
