WRAP Touts Web Site for Recycled Wood

Group looks to boost the use of recycled wood.

Potential purchasers of recycled wood products will now be able to access a wide range of product information and see the goods in action before they buy, thanks to a new website from the Waste & Resources Action Programme.

The original website, www.recyclewood.org.uk, went live in April 2003 and focused on providing information about wood recycling services and facilities across the UK.  Building on this, the new site, places the spotlight on enhancing the status of recycled wood products. The aim is to link potential purchasers with the relevant suppliers of products such as landscaping surfacing materials, animal bedding and equestrian surfacing supplies.

There are two major changes to the site.  Firstly, the development of new pages with additional information on a host of recycled wood products, including a description, their uses and benefits and live examples of the products in action via links to video case studies.  Secondly, a new search function has been developed which will allow users to locate recycled wood products by type of product or the location of the supplier.

The site is expected to appeal to a wide variety of audiences including purchasers and specifiers of recycled wood products, wood waste collection, processing and recycling organisations and generators of wood waste.

Julia Turner, materials development Manager (Wood) at WRAP, said:  “This exciting development will really help us in our aim of increasing the use of recycled wood products in many industry sectors.  The new tools will not only put purchasers and suppliers easily in contact with one another, but will give potential purchasers a great opportunity to see products in action before they buy.”

Trelawney Dampney, managing director of Eco Composting, added:  “We’re delighted that our products feature on the new-look website.  Our work with WRAP has already increased our sales of recycled wood mulch four-fold this year and this site can only further serve to increase the reputation and availability of recycled wood products.”
