A new report containing in-depth analysis of the market for recovered paper has been published by theWaste & Resources Action Programme.
Liz Dixon Smith, WRAP economist and author of the report, says: "We are faced with the continued contraction of the UK paper manufacturing industry and the decline in volume of recovered paper used in UK paper mills. By contrast, we are seeing real growth in net exports, particularly to China, which has seen prices for recovered fiber increase. The Market Situation Report on recovered paper has been developed to present the industry with the economic information it needs to respond to these trends."
The report, called Realising the Value of Recovered Paper analyses the current position for paper consumption and recovery in the UK and addresses challenges facing the industry. It also contains pricing information and details about recent developments in the domestic recovered paper market.
In addition, the report contains a special focus section that examines the current drivers of the future outlook in the global market for recovered fiber. It concludes that the UK needs to maintain and improve the quality of recovered fiber to minimize the risk of being marginalized.

WRAP is expected to release two more reports, one on Plastics and one on Organics by the end of this year.
