The board of members of the Brussels-based World Steel Association (Worldsteel) has re-elected its executive board of directors for the 2020/2021 period while also welcoming seven new companies and one new affiliated association.
“Executive board of directors usually hold office for one year, but the board of members has in this instance voted to extend the mandates of last year’s executive board of directors due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s interference with their duties at the postponed Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Members and other Worldsteel meetings,” the association states.
Those reelected directors are:
- Chairman Yu Yong of China-based HBIS Group Co. Ltd.;
- Vice-Chairman Sajjan Jindal of India-based JSW Steel Ltd.;
- Vice-Chairman André Johannpeter of Brazil-based Gerdau S.A.;
- Treasurer Mark Vassella of Australia-based BlueScope Steel Ltd.; and
- Chairman of the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) Bernardo Velázquez of Spain-based Acerinox S.A.
Worldsteel also elected an executive committee consisting of representatives from 15 different steel companies, including David Burritt of the Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp.
The board of members also has welcomed seven steelmaking firms as member companies: Brazil-based Aço Verde do Brasil; Bangladesh-based Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills; Turkey-based Diler Iron and Steel Co. Inc.; Taiwan-based Feng Hsin Steel Co. Ltd.; Mexico-based Grupo Acerero; Turkey-based Kaptan Demir Çelik Endustrisi ve Ticaret A.Ş.; and Turkey-based Kroman Çelik Sanayii A.Ş.
One new affiliated member also has joined Worldsteel in the form of the Russia-based Steel Construction Development Association.
