World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), Brussels, was 147.8 million metric tons in November, or 1 percent less than in November 2018.
Aside from China, crude steel production in November was down in most Asian countries compared with November 2018.
• China’s crude steel production was 80.3 million metric tons in November, up 4 percent compared with November 2018.
• India’s crude steel production was 8.9 million metric tons in November, down 2.8 percent compared with November 2018.
• Japan’s crude steel production was 7.7 million metric tons in November, down 10.6 percent compared with November 2018.
• South Korea’s crude steel production was 5.9 million metric tons in November, down 0.5 percent compared with November 2018.
In Europe, crude steel production in November was down in most countries compared with production levels in November 2018 as well. Italy produced 2.0 million metric tons of crude steel in November, which is down 9.8 percent compared with November 2018 production. France produced 1.1 million metric tons of crude steel in November, which is down 18.2 percent compared with November 2018. Spain also produced 1.1 million metric tons of crude steel in November, which is down 10.9 percent compared with November 2018.
Additionally, Turkey’s crude steel production was 2.9 million metric tons, down by 8.1 percent compared with November 2018.
Worldsteel reports that the U.S. produced 7.2 million metric tons of crude steel in November, which is a decrease of 2.2 percent compared with November 2018 production, Worldsteel reports. Also, Brazil’s crude steel production for November was 2.6 million metric tons, down 10.5 percent compared with November 2018.
