The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has appointed Edwin Basson to the position of director general. Subject to the formal approval of worldsteel’s board in April, Basson will succeed Ian Christmas as Director General on Aug. 1, 2011.
Basson currently serves as vice president, Commercial Coordination, Marketing and Trade Policy, for ArcelorMittal.
Hajime Bada, chairman of worldsteel, says,” We are delighted to welcome Edwin. He has excellent knowledge of the steel industry and of the strategic issues facing us globally. He is already well known to us all from his involvement as a former chairman of the worldsteel Economics Committee and as ArcelorMittal’s representative on the Living Steel Consortium.”
