Teamsters employed by Phillip Services Corp. Metals are on strike at the company’s Burns Harbor, Ind., facility at Mittal Steel.
PSC supplies scrap metal to the steel giant. Workers went on strike at the plant last week.
A statement issued on Sept. 12th from PSC Metals management said they will continue to support the mill service agreement with Mittal Steel. The company will utilize salaried workers in the interim and if necessary will hire temporary replacement workers, the statement said.
Management said the wage and benefits package offered as part of a new three-year contract is "significantly above and beyond" what employees were receiving. According to the statement, management said its proposal wasn't "regressive," it was a fair and competitive offer.
