Western Metals Recycling Receives Top Health and Safety Honors

Western Metals Recycling’s (WMR) scrap metal facilities in Englewood, Colo., and Provo, Utah, have received the Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) designation from the U.S. Department of Labor. SHARP is the highest honor the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) awards to businesses that demonstrate an exemplary commitment to workplace safety and health.  

The Englewood and Provo facilities are the second and third WMR facilities to receive the designation. WMR’s West Salt Lake, Utah, facility was the first WMR metal facility to achieve the SHARP status.

Dave Youngberg, general manager of WMR’s Englewood facility, and Jay Lamb, general manager of the Provo yard, accepted the award. 

“This honor is the result of their personal commitment to working safely, as well as looking out for fellow teammates, customers, suppliers, vendors and visitors to the recycling facility every day. Safety is a core value at Western Metals and this achievement reflects the entire team's goal of zero accidents,” says Jeff Davis, WMR’s president. 

At the award ceremony, Craig Feldman, president of The David J. Joseph Co., which owns WMR, said to the employees, “Thank you for what you do every day for Western Metals Recycling, and most importantly, thank you for working safely, working smart, and working together. You are WMR's greatest resource and having great teammates gives us a true competitive advantage." 

WMR operates eight facilities in the western United States.
