Wise Metals reported that shipments of Wise Metals Group's aluminum beverage can stock, other rolled aluminum products and scrap in the third quarter of 2005 totaled 173.2 million pounds, compared to 191.3 million for the same period in 2004, a decrease of 9.5 percent.
For the nine months ended September 30, shipments totaled 569.2 million pounds, compared to 570.1 million pounds for the same period in 2004, a slight decrease of 0.2 percent.
Sales increased 6.0 percent to $203.7 million for the three months ended September 30, 2005, and have increased 11.8 percent to $656.4 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2005, compared to year-ago figures. The sales increase is primarily the result of higher metal prices.
Net loss for the third quarter of 2005 was $10.5 million, which includes a $0.2 million favorable impact of SFAS 133. This compares to net income of break-even in the third quarter of 2004, which included a $1.9 million favorable impact of SFAS 133. There was no LIFO impact in either period.
