Wise Metals Group has purchased two aluminum recycling facilities, one located in Albuquerque, N.M., the other in Denver. Both facilities will provide scrap aluminum to the manufacture of aluminum sheet.
The two facilities were acquired from Tomra North America, which has been struggling with difficult markets over the past several quarters.
"We're very excited about this purchase because it allows us to continue Wise's philosophy of building our infrastructure that supplies our alloys unit with scrap," said Danny Mendelson, president of Wise Recycling.
Wise Recycling, based in Baltimore, is the division of Wise Metals that supplies Wise Alloys in Muscle Shoals, Ala., with scrap aluminum. The scrap comes primarily from used beverage containers.
The Albuquerque operations include four recycling service centers where the scrap aluminum is sorted, processed and shipped, plus 10 "convenience centers" in shopping centers where used beverage cans are collected for recycling. The Denver operations include four service centers.
Wise Metals Group LLC is the parent company of Wise Alloys and Wise Recycling. Based in Muscle Shoals, Ala., Wise Alloys is the third leading U.S. producer of aluminum can stock for the beverage and food industries.
Wise Recycling is one of the largest, direct-from-the-public collectors of aluminum beverage containers in the United States, operating shipping and processing locations east of the Mississippi River that support a network of neighborhood collection centers.
