"The acquisition broadly expanded our client services and produced a variety of synergies between the two companies to help us better serve clients," Marc Sherman, chairman and CEO of WindsorTech, says. "Now companies can call QSGI and get a broader, more integrated array of services than was possible in the past from WindsorTech and QualTech individually."
QSGI manages the IT assets of Fortune 1000 and government customers, including computers, servers and mainframes, among other hardware. It specializes in data security and regulatory compliance. The company maintains, refurbishes and/or resells computer equipment that has reached the end of its useful life cycle.
Prior to remarketing these assets, the company applies its proprietary Department of Defense (DoD)-level certified data sweep to machine hard drives, eliminating data that might otherwise be recoverable. The process reduces customer liability for data and ensures regulatory and environmental compliance for IT assets.
The company has also developed software for small businesses and consumers that can be downloaded from the Web at eraseyourharddrive.com.
A number of recent regulations have increased the liability of companies and organizations for information on their hard drives. "You can no longer just say I want to scrap this computer or send it to a recycling facility without documentation that the hard drive has been properly sanitized or that the disposal meets EPA standards," Sherman says.
Legislation including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as the Graham-Leach-Bliley Act protects consumers by enforcing the confidentiality of medical as well as financial records. Also, computer asset tracking is now mandated by the Sarbanes Oxley Act, which is designed to increase corporate accountability.
QSGI, which operates in a fragmented market, estimated at $25 billion per year, also maintains a Data Center Hardware group, which resells refurbished enterprise-class hardware to companies around the world. Its Data Center Maintenance group provides hardware maintenance services and Information Systems consulting to client across the United States.
The company is a Provider Member of IAITAM (International Association of IT Asset Managers) and holds a seat on their panel of expert speakers. It is also a member of the Gartner Group and the Meta Group.
In addition to its Hightstown, N.J., headquarters, the company maintains a facility in Eagan, Minn., and offices across the country. The company's new Web site will launch Oct. 1 and its domain will be www.QSGI.com.
