The motor vehicle salvage license of a Milwaukee area salvage and towing company has been revoked by the state of Wisconsin. An investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's dealer section found that Bowers Salvage and Towing, Milwaukee, purchased vehicles at salvage auctions, then resold them to retail buyers.
Under state law, a licensed motor vehicle salvage dealer in Wisconsin is only authorized to purchase and resell motor vehicles for wrecking, processing, scrapping, recycling, dismantling or spare parts. Salvage dealers are not allowed to sell vehicles to retail buyers and Bowers Salvage and Towing was found, on at least five occasions, to have sold vehicles to retail buyers for operation on state highways.
Wisconsin Administrative Law Judge David Schwarz of the state Department of Administration's Division of Hearings and Appeals found that the number of unlawful transactions warranted the revocation of Bowers Salvage and Towing's motor vehicle salvage dealer's license.
The revocation was effective December 22, 2005.
