White River Solid Waste Alliance, an organization headquartered in Royalton, Vermont, that represents the towns of Barnard, Bethel, Granville, Hancock, Pittsfield, Rochester, Royalton and Stockbridge, Vermont, is continuing their school outreach efforts this year.
As part of their solid waste implementation plan (SWIP), the alliance has engaged the Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA), Epsom, New Hampshire, to provide four workshops and two technical assistance trainings for South Royalton School, South Royalton, Vermont. The Alliance’s goal is to assist schools in their region to become compliant with Vermont’s universal recycling law, Act 148, which bans the disposal of recyclables, leaf and yard debris and food scraps in landfill.
NRRA’s School Club Educator, Charen Fegard, presented workshops on healthy home/clean waters, waste and global climate change, composting and recycling. Third-graders attended the workshops, held on Nov. 7, 9 and 10.
In addition, Fegard conducted a star assessment and a training on indoor air quality and green cleaning for the custodial staff, consisting of a comprehensive inventory and analysis of cleaning products used in the school.
