Weyerhaeuser Co. is taking extended downtime at its Henderson, KY, recycled paperboard mill. The company will idle the plant for six weeks. The mill is expected to restart the paper-making machine by the end of next month.
The company attributed the shutdown to market-related softness in the paperboard business. The mill is a consumer of old corrugated containers.
The shutdown is part of Weyerhaeuser's plan to bring supply and demand back into balance. In the company's announcement of its quarterly and year-end report, it stated that it would be taking a sizable amount of downtime throughout its system over the first quarter of this year.
According to Ken Woo, a spokesman for Weyerhaeuser, about one-third of the downtime being taken will be maintenance related.
