Weyerhaeuser will be introducing its new plastic film recycling program in the Eugene, Ore., area. It involves recycling plastic bags commonly used for holding wood pellets, mulch, fertilizer, potting soil and bark.
Weyerhaeuser has been commercially recycling other plastic film such as polypropylene seed and feed bags, shrink wrap, lumber wrap, and some types of agricultural film.
“These types of plastic film items are not recyclable in our local residential curbside recycling programs,” said Lorena Young, Weyerhaeuser’s recycling sourcing representative. “Here’s a perfect opportunity for people to recycle their plastic bags and keep them out of the landfill.”
Weyerhaeuser Recycling will provide special containers at Rexius for people to drop off plastic bags from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. After the Earth Day event, Rexius will continue to accept plastic bags for recycling. In addition, bags can be dropped off on weekdays at Weyerhaeuser Recycling’s plant in Eugene.
Young said recycled film is used to make a variety of new products. It goes into everything from plastic pallets to building materials such as fencing and decking, she said.
