Westvaco, which earlier in the week announced plans to merge with Mead Corp., announced that it is closing its Tyrone, Pa., paper mill. The company expects to close the mill by the end of October. The mill has been in operation for 121 years.
The company expects to move the business to more modern facilities the company owns. The mill has two paper machines producing a combined 100,000 tons of coated and uncoated paper a year.
Production will likely be routed to Westvaco’s coated paper mills in Luke, Md. And Wickliffe, Ky.
