Yaffe Purchasing Auto Shredder from Wendt

The Yaffe Companies has announced plans to purchase an auto shredder for its Fort Smith, Ark., facility. The shredder, a Wendt 80 x 115 shredder, will replace a smaller auto shredder that the company currently operates at the site.

Yaffe originally considered rebuilding the 74 x 104 mill shredder that it had been operating for more than 20 years. However, after considering the options, the company opted to replace the mill due to the benefits and overall costs of installing a new facility.

Yaffe operates shredders in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas.

"We believe most companies fall into two basic groups – those that are trying to get through today and those that are planning for tomorrow. Our business has continued to grow and we saw this as an opportunity to better position ourselves for the future," said Sean Yaffe, the fourth generation for the company.

Mark Ridall, Business Development manager for Wendt, said that the mill is presently under construction and should be ready by the second quarter of next year.

One advantage of the system, Ridall added, is that with the size of the new system Yaffe does not need any additional structural work on the facility.

An engineering study that looks at a loading analysis is presently being conducted to see what adjustments are needed to the site, including any concrete work that may be needed to fit the shredder.

Ridall notes that the size of the shredder is a custom size that allows Yaffe to increase their throughput without having to take a significant extra costs. "The mill provides more capacity, more robustness to handle heavier materials, and more throughput."

"The real benefit, Ridall noted, is that when market returns they (Yaffe) can really crank it up.
