Wendt Corp. has commissioned an aluminum scrap shredding and sorting system at the Guthrie, Kentucky, production facility of Novelis Inc.
Wendt Corp., based in Buffalo, New York, provides metal recycling equipment and technology, while Atlanta-based Novelis is a sustainable aluminum producer and a world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling.
According to Wendt, the Guthrie project marks a step forward in Novelis’ commitment to increase the recycled content of its products.
The newly commissioned equipment features what Wendt Corp. calls a fully integrated, high-capacity turnkey system that it engineered and delivered.
At the heart of the system is Wendt Corp.’s M6090 Shredder, a modular solution designed for maximum throughput and efficiency that is powered by an AC motor with variable frequency drive to optimize energy use and performance.
The system also includes an infeed conveyor, the Wendt EZR Pre-Shredder and a comprehensive downstream sorting system.
The sorting array is designed specifically for the aluminum sector and can handle a wide range of aluminum grades and product types, including baled and loose taint/tabor, production scrap and used beverage cans.
The company says the newly installed flexible shredding and sorting configuration at the Novelis facility allows the metals producer to adapt to evolving feedstock streams while maintaining high recovery rates and product purity.
