Wendt Corp., Buffalo, New York, has announced the commissioning of a small nonferrous plant for Moffatt Scrap Iron & Metal Inc., a metal recycler based in Campbellville, Ontario. The installation is part of Moffatt’s overall strategy to increase the volume of nonferrous scrap metal recycled.
Moffatt operates with a team of 43 employees and has been in operation since 1984. The company also operates Triple M Demolition, Campbellville, which provides scrap infeed for its recycling operations.
Moffatt says its nonferrous plant features a Wendt Tumbleback Feeder, trommel and fines eddy current separator and incorporates the company's eddy systems that were previously in use. Before purchasing the Wendt nonferrous system, Moffatt ran its automobile shredder residue (ASR) through a single eddy current separator, leaving unsized and nonferrous metal uncaptured.
Wendt says the new system will allow Moffat to rerun the ASR to capture additional nonferrous metals that were not recovered using one eddy current.
“We are looking to achieve better results with the new Wendt plant, especially recovering additional nonferrous material and the ability to process more materials,” says Christine Moffatt, Moffatt sales and purchasing representative
The addition of the nonferrous plant is the foundation of the company’s recycling strategy. The plant is designed for future expansion, Wendt says, and was commissioned and installed in January 2022.
