Wax On, Wax Off

Waxed cardboard recycler to speak at Paper Recycling Conference in June.

The vice president-recycling of a company that uses waxed cardboard as the feedstock to make its product will be offering a presentation at the 2010 Paper Recycling Conference, which takes place June 13-15 in downtown Chicago.

Sam Miller of Enviro-Log Inc., Fitzgerald, Ga., will offer a presentation on Tuesday morning, June 15 as part of a session on broadening the collection of recyclable materials.

On its Web site, www.enviro-log.net, Enviro-Log describes itself as the largest recycler of waxed old wax corrugated containers in North America. The company says it uses a patented extrusion process to turn waxed OCC into a fire log “that burns cleaner, hotter and more consistently than firewood and offers more uses than traditional wax-sawdust fire logs.”

The company markets its products as helping to divert materials from a landfill as well as being clean-burning for home use. “Enviro-Log fire logs are made from recycled waxed cardboard boxes that are used to transport food,” notes text on the company Web site. “Everything about these boxes is food-grade. The wax that covers them is the highest grade wax available so that it is safe for fresh food to be packed in them. We do not add any additional petroleum products or binders to our fire logs.”
