Wausau Steel’s Recycling Division Changes its Name

After sale of steel division, Wausau Scrap and Recycling plans to focus on recycling.

The recycling division of Wausau Steel Corp., Wausau, Wis., has announced its name change to Wausau Scrap and Recycling Corp.

The change reflects the core business operations that remain after Wausau Steel Corp, a privately held company, closed the sale of its steel division to O'Brien Steel Service Company of Peoria, Ill.

"We've come full circle from our beginnings as a scrap company in 1951," says President Peter Wallach, president of Wausau Scrap and Recycling. "The steel division sale allows us to focus on our core recycling business to improve and expand services to our industrial and consumer customers with a continued commitment to green best practices."

Wausau Scrap and Recycling serves metal fabricators, manufacturers, scrap metal dealers, the general public, and scrap metal buyers. It supports the efficient flow of raw materials from the production floor to scrap containers for maximizing return on metal value for manufacturers. The company processes all major ferrous and nonferrous materials.

Wausau Scrap and Recycling is a member of the Cooperative Compliance Program Inc. for scrap recyclers in Wisconsin. The voluntary program partners with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to ensure that stormwater discharge does not result in contamination of surface water, soil or groundwater.

"We meet or exceed all state and federal guidelines for environmental compliance," says Wallach.

Keith Jaeger, vice president and GM of Wausau Scrap and Recycling, concurs that the sale of the steel business will allow the company to focus on its scrap metal business, including growing both its industrial and retail trade. With the splitting of the scrap and steel business, the company also will look at upgrading and investing in equipment that will boost its scrap metal processing capabilities.

The company adds that it is a member of the Cooperative Compliance Program Inc. (CCP) for scrap recyclers in Wisconsin. The voluntary program partners with the Wisconsin DNR to ensure that storm water discharge does not result in contamination of surface water, soil or groundwater.
