Wastecycle has announced that it has opened a £1 million (US$1.6 million) indoor processing facility at its existing plant in Leicester, U.K. The goal of the facility is to process for recycling 95 percent of the material received from local authorities.
In a statement, Mick Ashall, Wastecycle’s development director, says clients are rightly calling for the highest possible recycling rates. "They want sustainability and the efficient use of natural resources," Ashall notes. "This new plant will play an important part in attaining these targets."
The new plant will produce baled recyclable materials; WRAP-accredited (Waste & Resources Action Programme) secondary aggregates; segregated products including wood, plasterboard, green waste, PVC and obsolete electronics; and scrap metal. The company adds that residual material will be taken to Wastecycle’s other plants to become cement-grade, refuse-derived fuel.
