WasteCap NE Hosting E-Scrap Collection Event

Interested parties can drop off one computer system at no charge.

WasteCap Nebraska will be holding a one-day collection event for obsolete computer equipment next month. The group, with funding from the Nebraska Environmental Trust and in partnership with the Lincoln, NE Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lincoln Recycling Office, will hold the event June 13th at the State Fair Park.

During the one-day event, participants will be able to drop off one computer system at no charge. Additional equipment will be charged at a reduced service fee of $10.00 per monitor and $0.35 per pound for other peripheral equipment and electronics.

WasteCap will also collect fluorescent lighting tubes for $0.40-$0.60 per tube. All electronics used in an office setting (faxes, printers, copiers, phones, etc.) can be brought to the collection event. Toner cartridges and cellular phones will be accepted free of charge. Participants bringing computers, PDAs or cellular phones should remove all confidential information prior to the collection. Computers can be cleared of this information by using a "wipe drive" program.

The equipment will be collected and sent to Retrofit Recycling, a St. Paul, Minn.-based electronics recycling company, for processing.
