Solid waste and recycling company Waste Pro, Longwood, Fla., is opening the first of what it says will be several compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations being built to provide fuel for its fleet of collection trucks.
At a grand opening ceremony planned for August 8, 2012, in Ft. Pierce, Fla., the company has invited elected officials and customers to see the $15 million CNG fueling station built in that city. The fueling stations also have the potential to be used by the cities and counties Waste Pro serves through municipal collection contracts.
In a news release announcing the event, the company says the Ft. Pierce CNG facility is “part of Waste Pro’s $100 million investment in transitioning its fleet of heavy trucks from diesel fuel to cleaner burning CNG,” and that “the company will build state-of-the-art CNG fueling facilities throughout the South.”
“Being a privately held company enables Waste Pro to react quickly to our needs and the needs of the communities we serve,” says said John J. Jennings, president and CEO of Waste Pro. “Many of our exclusive municipal customers are excited about this opportunity to play a part in the use of domestic CNG fuel and want to participate with us.”
Waste Pro announced in October 2011 its plans to reduce emissions through a plan that includes a commitment to solar powered facilities, residential and commercial recycling, landfill diversion and clean air.
The company offers services from more than 70 locations and holds more than 140 city and county franchises. Waste Pro says it is currently contracted to provide solid waste and recycling services to more than 1.5 million residential customers and more than 35,000 businesses in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
