Waste Management awards grants to eight KAB affiliates

Waste Management Inc., Houston, and Keep America Beautiful (KAB), Stamford, Connecticut, have jointly announced the eight KAB affiliates that will receive $10,000 Think Green Grants in 2014.

Waste Management says the grants are part of its commitment to encourage the development and sustainability of environmental solutions to improve communities. The merit-based grants support projects that KAB affiliates implement locally, such as recycling and waste diversion education programs and other environmental initiatives.

KAB representatives select the grant winners with input from Waste Management. The winning affiliates are not required to contribute matching funds to receive the grants.

“Our longstanding partnership with Waste Management has been a critical component of KAB’s effort to bring people together to transform public places into beautiful spaces,” says Jennifer Jehn, president and CEO of KAB. “The Waste Management Think Green Grants program is another instrument to help communities become more socially connected, environmentally healthy and economically sound.”

“Supporting communities by helping make them cleaner, thereby improving quality of life for residents, is what our company, and Keep America Beautiful, is all about,” says Barry Caldwell, Waste Management senior vice president of public affairs and communications. “The Think Green Grants provide us with a great avenue to demonstrate how Waste Management and KAB think green every day.”

Recipients of this year’s Think Green Grants are:

• Keep Charleston Beautiful, Charleston, South Carolina;
• Keep Clinton Beautiful, Clinton, Mississippi;
• Keep Detroit Beautiful, Detroit;
• Keep Durham Beautiful, Durham, North Carolina;
• Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, Reno, Nevada;
• Keep Virginia Beautiful, Richmond, Virginia;
• Metro Beautification & Environment Commission, Nashville, Tennessee; and
• OKC Beautiful, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
