Waste Connections Completes Asset Swap

Swap with Waste Industries will give WCI operations in Tennessee.

Waste Connections, Inc. has completed the previously announced multi-market asset swap. Under the agreement, Waste Connections acquired Waste Industries' hauling and C&D landfill operations near the Memphis, TN market, and its hauling and transfer station operation in Crossville, TN, which includes an early stage MSW landfill development project in a neighboring county. Simultaneously, Waste Industries acquired Waste Connections' hauling, transfer station and MSW landfill operations located in the north and northwestern suburbs of Atlanta.

Ronald Mittelstaedt, chairman and CEO, said, "We believe this is a win-win for both companies. Through this swap, we have expanded our market share and improved our competitive asset position in Tennessee and Northern Mississippi. From a landfill perspective, this transaction will increase the amount of MSW waste disposed at our Walnut Landfill and enable us to internalize C&D waste at the newly acquired site."
