The Ohio Department of Natural Resources- Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention (ODNR-DRLP) is distributing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a State Waste Characterization Study.
This study will establish a baseline that defines the components and amount of Ohio municipal solid waste (MSW). The results will be used to identify additional recyclable materials that can be removed from the waste stream to advance Ohio's recycling rate towards the 50 percent goal.
The study will divide Ohio into five designated regions and calls for six to 10 public or private landfills to be included in the study. Transfer facilities can be included for partnering districts that export the majority of their in-district waste.
There will be two seasonal sorts, one conducted in the spring and the second in the fall of 2003. While DRLP has a budgeted amount of funds for the project, the division is seeking additional financial support from participating SWDs.
To date, 15 districts have expressed an interest in participating in the study.
A copy of the RFP will be available at www.ohiodnr.com/recycling/research/wcs on or before January 6, 2003. You also can access the RFP by clicking on the following link: Waste Characterization Study RFP
