A Tacoma, Wash., recycler has settled an August 2001 penalty and order it received from the state for failing to properly manage dangerous waste and chemicals that posed a risk of environmental contamination and fire.
In the settlement, McClary Columbia Corp. will pay the state $6,500 of the $33,000 penalty levied by state’s Department of Ecology. In addition, $10,000 of the fine will be suspended as long as the firm complies with its agreed order for three years. The agreed order is designed to help ensure wastes are handled in keeping with state regulations.
McClary Columbia is a commercial recycling facility that takes in dangerous waste from small businesses.
