Waiver for Auto Shredder Adjusted

County waste authority will review waiver fee after five years.

The Richland County (Ohio) Solid Waste Management Authority has adjusted a special fee waiver for Milliron Recycling’s auto shredder, located in Mansfield, Ohio. The decision to change the waiver was made at an authority meeting on June 14. The generator fee originally was to be waived "in perpetuity." However, the waiver was changed to five years.

According to news reports the waiver fee would focus on the shredder residue that was generated after the shredding process. It is estimated that the company will generate around 20,000 tons of shredder residue a year, according to Robert Taylor, executive director of the RCRSWMA board. The company forecasts that roughly 25 percent of the material shredded will end up as shredder fluff.

The decision to adjust the length of time for the waiver fee goes along with the county’s solid waste plan, and can renewed or changed to a different length of time in five years.

The fee for the shredder fluff would be around $7.50 per ton, according to the Mansfield New Journal.
