Union members picketed outside a Wabash Alloys plant in Wabash, Ind., after the company locked out nearly 200 workers over stalled contract talks.
According to published reports, Bruce Warshauer, president of Wabash Alloys, said that union members would be allowed to return to the plant once the new contract was ratified. The union contract ended March 14th.
Wabash claimed that significant concessions that are part of the contract are needed to ensure the company maintains competitive with other companies in the area.
"The Wabash plant is the only Wabash Alloys plant that has workers represented by the Boilermakers union," it said in a news release.
The company hopes to continue to operate the plant with salaried and temporary employees.
Wabash is a large consumer of scrap aluminum.
