VW Exec to Speak at BIR

Shredding expert will offer views on ELV mandate.

Dr Daniel Goldmann, an expert on post-shredder technologies and for auto recycling process development for Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg, Germany, will give a presentation during the Fall Conference of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR).

Goldmann will be speaking during the Shredder Committee meeting on Monday, 28 October, at 9.00 am. The Fall Conference takes place in Brussels Oct. 28 and 29.

The End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive in the European Union has sparked debate, with both auto manufacturers and shredder operators grappling with how to comply with the directive efficiently. The BIR Shredder Committee, under the chairmanship of Richard Debauve of France’s CFF Recycling, has been examining the effects of the directive from the shredder operators’ point of view and has encouraged dialogue with the car manufacturers.

Dr Goldmann has spent a 15 years working on auto recycling, starting in 1987 at Preussag AG Metall in the area of “process engineering for recycling,” becoming Manager for Technique and Service of Preussag Recycling GmbH (vehicle recycling) in 1993. In 1999, he joined the German car manufacturer Volkswagen AG, taking over the process development efforts for post-shredder technologies.
