Turkish containerboard producer to install new line

Modern Karton has placed an order with Germany’s Voith for a recycled-content paper machine.

Germany-based Voith GmbH & Co. KGaA says Turkish containerboard producer Modern Karton Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. has “commissioned Voith to build and deliver a high-speed production facility for the production of recovered corrugated containerboard base paper.”

The new containerboard line will be known as paper machine (PM) 6, and joins PM3 and PM5 as production lines for which Voith has supplied equipment to Modern Karton.

“We are very pleased about this order and the confidence that Modern Karton has again placed in us,” says Michael Trefz, projects president at Voith Paper. “As a full-line supplier, we will deliver a powerful system and comprehensive solutions which will enable Modern Karton to produce paper efficiently with the lowest resource consumption and offer real added value.”

Voith Sales Manager Helmut Grimm adds, “We were particularly impressed by the determination of Modern Karton, with which the project lead time from tender to order receipt could be completed in an extremely short time.”

Among the equipment being provided by Voith is its BlueLine stock preparation technology, including an IntensaDrum Duo drum pulper with a feeding system that can process up to 3,000 metric tons of raw material per day.

After the 2023 startup of PM6 at Modern Karton’s mill in Corlu, Turkey, that plant is expected to produce approximately 640,000 metric tons of recycled-content corrugated containerboard base paper grades annually, says Voith. Modern Karton’s capacity in Turkey will reach nearly 2 million metric tons per year.
